Which to buy? New or used? Recommended cruisers

I have not been riding bikes for a few years now due to the military and injuries, and only recently have really been wanting to get back on to one. I had Hondas and Yamahas like the gold wings, fury’s and the V-stars. I want a comfortable cruiser for long trips but really have no idea what to get from Harley. Plus how true is the “Harley tax”? I’m comfortable at any size bike but am 5’7 so not exactly having the easiest time at stoplights on bigger bikes. Anyone have any recommendations?
