Who else remembers the first two months? There were towns, forts- all public, filled with cooperative, chill people. You could walk around spawn without having to worry about spawn-campers in diamond armor, you could trust people to help you, and God-forbid if anyone actually started killing innocents (charker, cachu, jaycow), they'd have half the server on their ass and be dead in a few hours. I knew that after playing through the first month that this was going to be my go-to server for a long, long time, and it has been. But I'm honestly starting to lose interest.
I noticed a small rise in assholes around the second month, so the now-reformed Cachu and I started the NMR. It was great- I got around 40 applicants in under 24 hours. The NMR ran it's path and eventually died when we realized that people just wouldn't allow it. I guess the word of this server had escaped reddit (I noticed many of you have reddit accounts for the sole purpose of commenting here), as I generally find redditors pleasant people, for the most part. People opposed the NMR just because they wanted to be the bad guy, and it spread to the whole server.
Most of the old, civil members have been driven out by now, making a new generation of people intent on two things: fighting and getting mad. Look at this subreddit now compared to four months ago- most of the front-page posts involve some bullshit drama between two PvPers. I loved this server because it replicated an actual society, in a way- now it's no different from any other PvP server, besides the fact that the people you kill stay dead for a bit longer.
Honestly, how do people get satisfaction in ruining other people's gaming experiences? You're not cool if you kill a random noob and rob him the chance of experiencing a great server, you're not cool if you trick a girl into trusting you just so you can kill her in a videogame. Maybe I'm too retarded to understand other points of view, but I just can't figure out how people derive satisfaction from such acts. I can't count the number of times I've personally been called a noob: I'll admit, I suck at PvP and always have. I don't play to fight, I play to help people. There are servers strictly for PvP- try mcpvp.com or mcctf.com. Or, if you just want to straight up kill people- play CoD! Play Battlefield! Why Minecraft, and why this server?
I know I'm the definition of a white knight right now, and I'm expecting loads of downvotes. I really just wanted to have my opinion heard, and apologize to anyone who missed out on this server when it wasn't just straight hostility. Does anyone agree?
