Am I being overcharged? I was quoted 4400 for 700sq ft
Post Body

I had a friend of a friend come out to estimate how much it would cost for him to refinish the floor in my new(to me) house.

Floor area is roughly 700sq feet. All ground level. 2 bedrooms, small hallway, living room and connected dining area.

I plan to remove all baseboards and vent covers myself. I plan to install all new baseboards and shoe molding myself as well so these activities are not be part of the 4400 estimated cost.

There are two places where dowels will need to be used to repair the floor where the previous owner drilled through for tv/internet cables.

The floor is worn down to bare wood in 80% of the areas as the previous owners did not refinish in the 23y of ownership. However, the floor is in excellent condition otherwise, no water damage, pet stains, or warping. It’s the original flooring from the 50s.

The estimate includes sanding and 3 coats of water based finish. No stain.

I live in the metro Detroit area. Am I being overcharged?

That's definitely not the highest. Just got a quote for Detroit proper that was 11k....sheeeeesh. (The guy we chose is around $5600.)
