Returned to the hobby after a long hiatus and visited an old spot with a new very beautiful, very friendly, and most importantly very skilled provider, I'm talking potential new ATF material. However, I went in with what I thought was FS money but she laughed and said "for that big? no no, more money" which seemed odd, so I opted for CBJ at the expected rate instead which I very much enjoyed, even got a second pop for my money. On my way out I asked how much for FS and she had to think about it and said 300, which I laughed at and asked why and she said "Too big, too big."
I know this sounds like a brag but I'm just genuinely confused. While I was happy with my service, I've been in the hobby for a short while now and seen more providers than I'd like to admit; While I've gotten "so big!" comments from providers before I just thought that was flattery they tell all their clients and I laughed, and have certainly never been charged more because of it. Has anyone else ever heard of an upcharge for too large of a package other than from your local USPS? Is this a provider thinking I don't know the usual rates because (I'm assuming) I'm younger than most hobbyists? Just struck me as an odd moment in an otherwise very pleasant experience.
