Post Body

Hello wonderful people! I just picked up this wheel and wanted to know if anyone knew anything about it. So far, it seems pretty special.

It is made by Rick Reeves. it has never been used. It does not have a manufacturer number on the bottom, but I believe it is hand signed by him. I also know he tested all of his spinning wheels, The yarn spun onto the bobbin is his. It was given to the person that I got it from in the 1980s (I think).

Unfortunately, it does have a broken part :-( I do have the chipped pieces of wood, and I believe I can fix it.

That's a very classic but seemingly well made Saxony, would be nice to spin considering my first glance.

That broken part isn't a big deal but is more than gluing it back and screwing it back, threaddle repairs are better done by people having good knowledge of woodworking. My way which never failed me (but is far from being the only one or the best one I'm certain!) consists of drilling the part to fit and glue a dowel in it. Some people will tell you glue is stronger than wood and it's true, but wood that cracked once have big odds of being about to crack for the second time

Sorry for the lectury look of my posts that wasn't the goalπŸ˜….

Your plan seems really good! I've seen some full length drilling to let a stainless rod through the support and thought it was neat but lengthy drillings are an art 🀣. And I've heard of a dutch lady that replaces the wood with plastic dowels in this kind of applications.

More opinions mean more options, always.
