Hi all - I am new to spinning, and bought a 1993 pre-owned Schacht Matchless that hadn't been used in some time. It needed a whorl, so I bought that and was finally trying to set everything up tonight, but the front maiden will not stay up, even with the t-screw all the way tight. As I practice treadling, the bobbin spins and then flies off. I can't find anything anywhere that addresses this. I'm looking for validation that yes, the front maiden should be locked into place and is rigid while spinning, correct? I wonder if I need to replace that whole part? Any wisdom you can share is appreciated - thank you!
Matchless are wonderful neat and precise hyper responsive wheels. Most of the new ones are bought by small shops or seasoned spinners needing a reliable tool to handle kilometers of yarn monthly.
Second hand is not a good idea with this one! Most of the second ones I saw were worn out beyond acceptable for this level of precision
