Help! Partially felted fleece

I’m a novice spinner and just washed my third ever fleece, which was a BFL. Had no issues with the finnsheep and clun forest, but I agitated the BFL too much during the second rinse, and now it’s partially felted near the base of the locks.
How do I save it?? I was looking forward to using it so much, and I can still pull it apart with my hands, but the fibers are pretty tangled. Is this something that hours of combing could fix??
