Wife and I are possibly separating after a 12 year relationship. Mid 30s. And most of my friends that are local are married and with kids. I don’t have kids, just a probably soon to be ex wife. I’m really just looking for a place to meet friends, socialize.
Long story short, we both have problems that we need to work through that became apparent in the last few weeks. I’m starting therapy this week. She started therapy last week. She is refusing couples therapy which leads me to believe we’re not getting back together.
None of that was important but it just felt good to get off my chest as I have a very client centric job where I have to put a happy face on to perform correctly.
Since most of my friends have families, they will hang out but do not have the energy/time to spend nights hanging out. I was wondering if there were places that either A. Wouldn’t be be weird for me to just show up alone and sit at a bar or winery B. Good places to meet people to make friends with.
I don’t just mean bars, really any activities work. It’s currently dead of winter so my usual activities, paddle boarding/kayaking and just general beach stuff is kind’ve out of the questions.
I live in the Chicks Beach area, near the Lesner Bridge, so anything around that area would be preferable. But open to any options.
Also I have slight social anxiety (Nothing paralyzing, but it’s hard for me to introduce myself to strangers out of the blue) that has developed in the last few years. Ironically I was very social in college, joined a fraternity and everything. I’m also very social at work, with coworkers and with clients. Just something about being out and about at places flips a switch.
Sorry for the rant, thank you for any suggestions.
