I just got off work and decided to try this.
I think I finally have some headway here. I changed a couple things in the radio and tablet preferences. One of the things I changed was setting the radio to narrow band instead of wide band. I now have packages/packets going in and out. Everything seems to he working now.
I'm going to charge things tonight and do this again tomorrow, when there are actually other people 'online.'
It's not connected to WiFi at all, and I have a map on screen, with my location showing. I think I changed a setting in the tablet preferences, too, but I don't remember which one.
I'm going to go for a drive tomorrow and see how it does.
I'm totally new to so much of this. Just this little bit of success revives my interest so much. I'm actually looking forward to experimenting with this in the coming days.
The antenna and its location will make a big difference in your reception. I have run basically the same setup, and recieved a few beacons sitting in my house, but when I go out and hook up to the antenna attached to my vehicle's roof rack, I see a ton more from a lot further away. I recommend finding a good hill location you can sit at to see how far away you can receive from.
Also, once you get everything working, look into the SMS gate to be able to send and receive text messages.
