I know, I know. Dangerous topic and another "Ends" post. Probably saying things that have been said. I still enjoy Halloween Ends though. Only have a few gripes with it:
-JLC's performance as "Normal" Laurie still comes across as off to me. But this is probably intentional as she's putting on a face and pretending to move on for her and Alyson's sake.
-The first third of the movie is very slow and feels bloated.
-The band geeks, Cory's mom, Mullaney and Deb are still overly obnoxious and stereotypical and I don't like them. But I also don't get catharsis with their deaths.
-I don't like how quickly Laurie goes from "Corey's cute. I like him" to "I don't trust him. He's evil"
-Still wish Laurie and Michael died together.
Things I like or enjoyed more the 3rd time around -Ronald (Corey's stepdad) is still one of the best additions to the franchise. Genuinely hurts me when he dies.
-Rohan Campbell and Andi Matichak give great performance
-The opening is still great.
-I like that the presence of Michael Myers is always looming. An infection of Haddonfield similar to Voldemort in Harry Potter. I wish they would have gone further with it though.
-Music is banging as always.
I actually really enjoy the scenes of Michael when he's there. I don't have the gripes that other people do.
-Junkyard scene is one of the best in the series
Ends has its flaws. You don't have to like it, you don't have to hate it. I enjoy it because I like being in the world with those characters and I enjoy watching Mikey. Hopefully the new Halloween movies continue keeping the essence of Haddonfield and the Shape pure and deliver some atmospheric scary films to keep the spirit of Halloween alive.
