New to Half Life

I'm new to Half Life. I k ow a lot about the franchise and the games as I have watched A LOT of co tent on it, but I've only recently got the games. I have the steam version of the complete half life bundle. I know Half Life 1 has a speed cap, and I was wondering if getting a mod to disable this so I can bhop would get me VAC'd. Also any advice for playing would be appreciated as I'm terrible at it. I've always been on xbox and haven't played much pc games. Thanks
