wtf did I do wrong? (At home bikini wax)
Post Body

Hi! Tried to wax my bikini line just now and failed miserably. It only pulled a few hairs. So now I feel like I wasted time and it would irritate things to go over the area again.

Here’s what I did: - showered and exfoliated first, made sure to be totally dry - made sure hair was about a quarter inch - lightly baby oiled the area beforehand - used hard wax I got at Sally’s - applied with the grain, ripped against the grain - pulled the skin taut, went fast and cussed lol - tried two small sections and had the same results both times: several hairs pulled out beautifully, but the result is super patchy. Having some pinpoint redness and bleeding, and even having some bleeding in the follicles of hairs that didn’t come out.

So what gives?? Help!

Edit: idk if this matters, but I’m white with very dark hair (except it’s really only coarse in this region; everywhere else is pretty fine)

Absolutely agree no to the baby oil - but also, with hair like bikini line / underarm they might grow in different directions, so with hot wax / solid wax you could try not applying with the grain (that’s more for liquid wax and flat areas with straight hairs like legs).

So with hot wax you want to sort of apply it off the end of the stick in small circles or sort of one way then push it the other. Use the stick at a greater angle than with liquid wax (which you do more like a butter knife on toast). The liquid wax being thinner will coat the hairs when applied that way but hot wax will need working into the area a bit more than just spreading it on one direction.

And you said you pulled the skin taut, that’s good, that’s very important
