On April 24th, 2008 Queena was attacked returning books at the Bloomingdale library. At the time of the attack, she was on the phone with her friend Rachel, who had exchanged phone numbers with Queena after the assault of a daycare worker. Unbeknownst to them, Kendrick Morris, the daycare worker's attacker would go on to become Queena's attacker.
While on the phone, Queena was attacked and Rachel heard a scream. When authorities found Queena, she was lying on an ant hill, covered in bites over her shoulders, and had been beaten and raped.
When regaining consciousness from her first coma, she asked "Why can't I see?" Soon Queena's condition would worsen as she needed brain surgery and was in a medically induced coma. Upon waking up, Queena was blind and could no longer walk, talk, or eat.
Despite this, she continues to thrive and documents her journey on her website https://joinqueena.com/ and through the book published by her mother "The Life She Once Knew." Her family continues to take care of Queens.
