Why don’t parents let us dye our hair?

So many parents prohibit their kids/teens from dying their hair. My own parents put up THE BIGGEST FIT when I wanted to put highlights in my hair. I didn’t even ask for an unnatural color!! What the heck!
Do parents think they own their kids and should stop them from expressing themselves? Are they concerned about their “perfect family” facade? What is your take?
