My landlord allowed our A/C to run with no air filter for 3 months...
Post Body

Actually, the air filter was too small. Way too small, to the point of doing nothing. The inside of the air duct has so much dust. It took me 2 and a half months to notice it, because that was when I said, "Hey, isn't it about time to change our air filter?"

So I bitched about it and he bought air filters that were too big. Finally we have the right sized air filter, and I can tell the difference. I'm not waking up stuffed anymore.

My question is, wouldn't leaving the A/C running with no air filter, in the blazing summer Virginia heat, reduce the efficiency of our A/C therefore increasing our utility bill? What other effects might this have? It's still pumping out relatively cool air but I really wonder, it seems to be on constantly even though it's set at a less agreeable temperature.
