Compressor keeps melting wires and frying the leads. Last week it tripped the breaker. What might be the problem?

All three wires have now been hooked up to connectors because they one by one melted. It seems that there is another problem. The compressor will run fine and cold air comes out but why does it keep eating these wires up. They are the proper wires also.
