I don't think I'll be sent to r/unpopularopinion for saying that book 7 was a little... underwhelming. Between many chapters spent camping; JK shoehorning the Deathly Hallows into the last book with basically no set-up; and Harry stumbling his way between plotpoints like Jar Jar Binks, blindly hitting one Deus Ex Machina after the other: I think it's safe to say we were hoping for a lot more.
(Note that I didn't even mention the epilogue.)
However I want to avoid a discussion about what makes 7 bad.
Instead: What do you wish had occurred in the last book? What were you hoping to see that didn't come to pass? Which set-ups had a Game of Thrones S8 vibe? I feel there are a couple of gimmies which I'll list below:
- Actually spending most of the year at Hogwarts.
- A pay-off to how Harry "could have been great" in Slytherin.
- A pay-off to Harry and Tom being very similar.
- A pay-off to Harry's Seeker skills which isn't just him catching the Elder wand. (aka. Expelliarmus working as intended)
- A pay-off to Neville/Bellatrix's backstory.
What were you hoping the last book would contain?
