Natural abilities

Post Body

Ok so a while ago(like a year or more ago) I saw a post of someone complaining about how in a lot of fanfics where Harry goes to gringots and gets an inheritance test, there is a section for ā€œnatural abilitiesā€. This person said that it always ruins the story and cheepens it and they havnt come across any that are good. So that got me thinking how could it be done well?

Iā€™ll be honest this has been sitting in the drafts for a while because I just forgot to finish it lol.

So thatā€™s where I came up with my head cannon for natural abilities.

  • So basically natural abilities could come from a few different ways. Like through blood(like parseltounge, metamorphmagus, etc.) for me I think itā€™s incredibly stupid for Harry to gain parseltounge through the horcrux, I think itā€™s as simple as many families have parselmouths and while itā€™s a rare ability, not something that only Slytherin had. Most families just keep it a secret or move to other countries where itā€™s more accepted.

  • but for the ones like seeing magic, excessive use of wandless magic, or any of the ones where itā€™s a deep connection to magic itself. That comes from how powerful you personally are. So it might be more likely if both your parents are powerful, itā€™s not 100%. It just depends on you.

  • then you have the ones like Animagi, mind magics, etc. Those come in only if you try to do them. Like if you have any of those of the list, and if you try them, the chance of you succeeding is much higher. It doesnā€™t mean you already have full occlumency shields or are an Animagus at birth. But if the person tries it might take them quicker to get it or a natural grasp for the talent.

What do yall think? Any other thoughts?
