Basically the dark mark tells him if you betray him or not and if you do it kills you and takes your magic and gives it to him. Once a death eater, always a death eater.

Snape was a death eater, he never went to “dumbledores side”. Igor betrayed him after he died. But Regulus betrayed him and it did kill him.

It’s also a head canon that it’s made with parselmagic and because of that Harry could’ve removed it.
