Shipping and trade in the wizarding world

Have you guys encountered any good interpretations of shipping/goods transportation and trade in the wizarding world? I have thought that they could just use portkeys or floo or apparate goods to and from places, but now I'm wondering if there's like a limitation on what can be transported this way. It seems for instance that dragons cannot. From book 4 we know the dragons keepers "put them out with a Sleeping Draft on the way here, thought it might be better for them to wake up in the dark and the quiet" (Charlie W., GOF, ch. 19). The wording of this makes me interpret this as "on the way" being something with duration more than a couple of seconds, as a portkey would be.

Or maybe there just isn't international trade on a larger scale? Do you have any trade related head canons?
