This originally developed from a post on Caer Azkaban, from a prompt by someone else, and a second prompt developed out of it from an old idea I had, and I thought I'd crosspost/refine it a bit.
If Hagrid rescued Tohru, would he enjoy the taste of her dragon meat dishes? Tohru is so happy someone likes her cooking.
I gotta admit, Ilulu hanging around with Harry would be pretty amazing, especially if he acts as the exasperated straight man to her hijinks.
Though, if it were Malfoy she hung around instead, he'd be tearing his hair out trying to stop her blowing up the school/his home, or something. Or, Lucoa hanging around Harry like she would Shouta? The dragons becoming attached to and chilling out around certain characters are each veins of gold in a goldmine to be explored/mined, heh.
Instead of the usual "gets sorted into Houses" schtick, I think it'd be funnier if the dragons were just hanging around Hogwarts/Privet Drive et cetera were mostly just left alone, since even Dumbledore would be pretty chill (unless they disturb the school and its learning capability/students), "And what do you expect me to do versus several of the most powerful dragons in existence?"
Neville keeping Fenrir from going apeshit would be a nice twist on things, especially if he develops an interest in Japanese manga and stuff because of it.
Kanna charming the Hufflepuffs would be hilarious.
The prompt that spawned from this one:
Ya know, I had a weird plot bunny like a year ago I never really did anything with.
Basically, through a Noodle Incident, Harry was thrown back or reincarnated back in the distant past, and he became basically one of the oldest dragons.
However, while deemed "brilliant" and "revolutionary" by the younger dragons (for basic concepts like "don't be a dick" and "don't crap in the river upstream from where you're drinking from", his magic basically being the fundamentals of teaching dragons how to control theirs, et cetera), he was also regarded as being batshit insane because he would talk about things that didn't exist yet (e.g. what humans would eventually do).
Eventually, they'd think he has dementia or something because of his "old age", and two caretakers, one from the Chaos and and one the Harmony factions, would look after him/clean up his messes.
The plot would kick off when he decides to take a "little jaunt" to Earth, since humans basically caught up to where he expected they would be now; however, since he's one of the oldest and most powerful dragons, he unintentionally causes panic and chaos when he enters Earth (as in giant wormhole of fire in the sky kinda chaos).
When they learn that he's on Earth, dragons begin panicking everywhere because, in their eyes, their "grandfather" who can sneeze and wipe out a country by accident, and who supposedly has dementia, is now walking around without supervision.
Meanwhile Harry is just walking around and enjoying modern amenities, like TV, movies, food/snacks, et cetera.like a regular kid, completely unaware of the pandemonium he's created and helping out people with problems (e.g. using his magic to repair broken antiques and such).
That'd cause more confusion and panic, especially if they begin to think he's some mastermind/shepherd playing the long game but in reality has Ciaphas Cain levels of luck, heh.
Until anyone who remembers talking to him shows up and realizes "Huh, that thing over there is EXACTLY what he described to me. Weird." Then they probably start thinking he's a seer and anything strange he ever did would be reexamined
And when she sees Rita Skeeter... [.gif of Kanna eating a cicada]
That's a piece of fridge horror I never even considered, haha.
Kanna hunting down that "juicy-looking bug" could be a funny, recurring gag.
Additional thoughts:
- Because they think he's some sort of seer after realizing he was talking about cars and stuff in the ancient past, a few dragons from each faction form a pseudo-cult around him; he has no idea, and their shenanigans are self-defeating and in the background/gags
- His timing is completely off, so he "pops back" onto Earth when his friends are adults (thirties, et cetera); when he sees a younger version of himself living a normal, post-Voldemort life, he wonders if he created a branch in the timeline explaining his dragon existence, or if he's looking at himself before he was punted back -- all of this flies in the face of known HP time travel, so he's stumped
- He frequently visits the Wizarding World to look in on his friends; subsequently, wizards and witches think Hermione, the Weasleys, and others have some sort of guardian dragon spirit protecting them -- woops!
- "Never tickle a sleeping dragon" actually came from an incident where a Harry accidentally flattened something or someone, when he was tickled in his sleep (e.g. someone tried to kill him)
- He has "near misses" with the other dragons, such as bumping into Tohru while eating onigiri and being waved off with an apology; when they realize they all bumped into the one they're searching for/in a panic over, there's a collective "D'oh!" moment
- In a comical scene, Tohru's father accidentally gets tail-punted across the planet by Harry while he's rummaging around Kobayashi's cupboards for a snack
Yeah, this all sort of oozed out as a random stream of consciousness. Eh.
