A classic Harry finds the texts/portraits of the of the founders...and discovers it'd all very outdated. Like real world science, magic has only advanced over time not gotten worse. The founders were the best of their time...but also that was close to 1000 years ago. They also only the level of knowledge muggles at the time. Which meant Gryffindor and Syltherin both drank mercury to expand their lives. Ravenclaw believed the earth was on the back of a giant turtle. And Hufflepuff believed bathing was both unhealthy and a sin.
