(Spoilers 106) Abusing the Philosopher's Stone for Fun and Profit
Post Body

[Omake]

Harry looked down at the Stone of Transfiguration in his palm. He had, what, three seconds before Voldemort pulled a gun on him?

A power he knew not...

You couldn't Transfigure specific things, like copies of lost books... But you could Transfigure things involving knowledge you couldn't possibly have, including brains, Professor McGonagall had many good qualities but encyclopaedic knowledge of porcine neurology was not one of them... Was the restriction against lost books due to the Interdict or something? Harry wasn't sure if he'd ever tried to Transfigure a book that wasn't lost. Although, maybe that pig was just some sort of Platonic baseline pig...

Quirrell had said that resurrection was possible with the Stone...

He didn't have time to Transfigure something the size of, oh, say, Merlin...

No.

Surely, someone thought of that...

Yeah, just like they thought of putting protective shells on their time machines.

With a casual, fluid motion, as Voldemort raised his handgun, Harry reached into his robes, touched the wand he'd snatched off Severus when he'd fallen on him (it wasn't a betrayal, for all he knew he'd have to save Voldemort from a Dementor or something), gripped the Stone of Transfiguration, and Transfigured his own neocortex to contain all Merlin's lost magical knowledge.

Of course, that's almost certainly not possible, but what are the limits on Transfiguration with the Stone? If you could Transfigure a working, living, specific human, the world would look very different, so how does Quirrell plan to raise Hermione? He might have access to her corpse, but her brain is bound to have sustained serious damage by now. Maybe magical healing can do something about that, though. I suppose he might be lying to Harry (or use some trick of wording, e.g. "Well, I tried, it's not doable").

Come to think of it, what damage can the Stone undo? Fluffy died by AK, so what's the damage there? Would that be fixable with the Stone?
