So last night, I came home to bulging drywall in my hallway. It's about 4 feet in length going up the wall from the bottom up and it's very clearly NOT water damage. It wasn't there this morning and at this point my husband and I are worried that there might be structural damage to the building. Is there a quick answer as to who is responsible for potential structural damage to the building? If it's "normal" settling of the building is anyone responsible? Our complex was built in 1976.
Apparently our neighbors have very large cracks near their stairs (we're a single level unit above the garages without stairs we luckily only have 1 crack in the ceiling so far and this now) and the HOA has already come out and already told them that they're SOL because it's normal for the building to settle and as a result the HOA isn't willing to do anything. Anything they/we can do about it?
I just emailed the management company and asked them to come inspect our unit. They've been nothing but good to us in the past, so I think they'll be responsive with our request, but I'm afraid of what they'll say and I want to be ready with a response if they say we're SOL.
So yeah... hopefully you can give me happy/neutral info?
Edit: I have emailed my Management company again and asked for the most up to date version of my CC&R's. Hopefully this will give us some more insight as to who is responsible for what.
