Doing a re-watch of the HBO doc since we just got a subscription.
It's very hard to watch knowing all the things I now know. Especially the part where Dee Dee's father said that their family wanted to just throw away her ashes. He and her step-mother mentioned that she was similar to her own mother and then they discussed her possibly killing her own mother.
I was wondering if it was possible that Dee Dee was abused by her own mother in similar or other awful ways and she continued the cycle with Gyspy? And that also made me wonder if her father had witnessed that abuse but brushed it off and ignored it. Just the way he and her step-mother talked about her made me feel like he knew she had been mistreated but now that she was dead and what she had done was so public, he wasn't taking any responsibility for how she was raised and it was all Dee Dee's mother's fault?
I'm not excusing anything that Dee Dee did. She did a lot of horrible things and should have been held accountable for every bit of it. But it just makes me wonder if Dee Dee had been failed by her family too and it turned her into what she became? It's just all such a very terrible, very sad situation that raises new questions for me every time I watch or read something about it.
