Is Guyver worth checking out?

Ok gotta be honest. My only experience with the franchise is the first American movie (I did actually enjoy it somewhat for the practical effects but dear god everything else was like a smelly piece of dog shit). Is the anime worth watching? Does it have more to offer than just the typical shounen fighting anime type stuff? What should I go in expecting if I dive in at all?
