What does the old BB King chicken head knob do?

I love the look of the knobs and I'm all about different ways to get different sounds. From what I understand, the pot on those old guitars are different notches of whatever you want more or less of. But could someone be, a little Too specific with me? Like, I'm not being specific enough for google to tell me anything. I want to put one in the tone pot place of one of my guitars but idk what I would even do with it. But I want it. Lol.
