So I always tend to peruse the local secondhand gear market on FB and CL and such, and lately it's gotten to this ridiculous point where I'm seeing, like, straight up holy grail, dream amp type shit (for my modest price range, anyway) for CRAZY low prices, and they've been listed for weeks or even months, and it's damn near impossible to resist buying this stuff because it's like, will I ever see it for that price again? Like I just lowballed this guy on a Vox AC30 with the stock Alnico blues ($1800 new) and offered him 700 bucks(!!!) and he didn't miss a beat and said "yeah sure that works." What!? I feel like I have to buy it now!
Part of me tries to justify it by telling myself it's almost an investment, and when the market corrects itself, I can potentially flip stuff for a profit (which I have done with moderate success in the past), but is that wishful thinking? Are we experiencing some kind of Great Depression for the used gear economy? Am I going to end up with a storage unit full of amps that are way too ridiculous to play in my apartment as a hobbyist, that I'll never be able to sell? Please help me Reddit I'm scared for my bank account :(
