I have a new Rickenbacker 330 which came stock with a terrible setup, high action, bad intonation and tuning.
I don't know too much about guitar setups so I took it to a small independent local guy who (judging from the amount of old guitars and bits and pieces all over his workshop) made me feel that the setup of my guitar was in very safe hands.
240€ later (he said the neck was slightly bent and the frets needing sanding evenly) and the guitar now tunes up a treat and has great intonation up and down the neck. The action is now super low and the guitar is vastly more playable than it was before, however.. I realised when I got it home that there is quite a lot of fret buzz, not everywhere, but quite noticeable around the lower strings of the first few frets.
Is this considered normal? I feel that if I take the guitar back in and challenge the old dude that I might be seen as questioning his judgement and years of experience.... surely he must have set the guitar up to what he considered a good setup?
Or has he done a bad job? I really don't know enough about guitar setups to know if my money has been ill-spent. Anyone?
