I've recently started "playing" using JustinGuitar. I have nothing negative to say about his beginner course and lessons. I think he's a great teacher, charismatic, and excited about what he does, which is awesome. I also believe it makes a whole lot of sense building a strong foundation with the basics - but, I can only practice chord changes for so long.
Can anyone relate? Experiences anyone would like to share for those of us just starting and trying to keep things from feeling stale?
Edit:
Holy smokes! Those replies! Thanks for chiming in, everyone. Just letting you guys know that I've read each and every reply and it's been interesting hearing how people have started, what they wished they would have done differently, what caused their weaknesses and strengths. I will continue to read each reply as they come in. I'm glad this post gained some traction and hopefully your responses will help a newcomer in the future who may have the same feelings and question.
I'm definitely going to stick with Justin's program. I want to be clear that I am aware that he does teach songs after learning the basic chords (big 8?), but he also admits that they are "beginner-ish" and basic-basic versions of the real songs, which is obviously great and understandable because people taking the beginner course are obviously beginners and need it to be easy and not discouraging. Don't get me wrong, it's satisfying to play Three Little Birds, but dammit, I want to play "Nothing Else Matters"! I know, I know, all in good time.
So, I'm going to do as a lot of you recommended and stick with the course, working on technique, learning and understanding theory and progressing best I can with the fundamentals. If I need a break I'll just pick a song and try not to cement any bad habits.
Keep the replies coming in. I appreciate everyone here and, of course, Mr. Sandercoe.
