I don't remember anyone deconstructing a solo when I was learning but I think it would be a useful tool for anyone looking to understand lead guitar solos and why certain features are implemented (or not). We could discuss jam solos vs carefully crafted solos, which works better for which composition, why they're holding back or going too hard, etc.
The natural complement to this would be a lesson on how to write a really great solo or what to do to bring a compelling jam solo. I don't know exactly what people would want, if this is even a good idea, but since I didn't take lessons while I was honing my lead skills, I think it's a good idear.
What do you all think? I would crosspost to /r/guitarlessons of course. Maybe if this is something people want we could have a vote on which solo(s) to deconstruct?
Edit: Here is the link to the first part of the deconstruction. I've decided on Metallica's "Unforgiven" but I will be happy to do more case studies if it's well received.
