[QUESTION] Do the various Gibson ES-335 models differ beyond the obvious?

I've noticed that the price differences between various non-custom shop models are fairly large (high hundreds), yet on paper they seem to be pretty much the same aside from minor cosmetic differences. For instance, how does the satin finished 335 compare to the gloss finished one in terms of quality? They boast the same specs, finish aside but the price difference is £700! Also how do the Dots compare to the the equivalent non-dot versions?

I ask because I'm giving serious consideration to buying one, (or possibly an es-390 with minibuckers) but I don't really have any Gibson dealers near me.
