What should I use to remove old adhesive from my guitar’s pick guard?

Post Body

I’m working on an ancient Gibson (J-50 I think but I’m not for sure) that’s been in my family for decades, and I removed the pick guard because it was peeling off and needed replacing. However, it left some very old adhesive caked onto the guitar and I was wondering what I should do/use to remove it without damaging the guitar or its finish? Thanks for the help.
