[QUESTION] What's a good "second" first guitar?

Post Body

I've started playing again after nearly 10 years and want to get a "second" first electric guitar!

I started learning how to play when I was 14ish, but stopped around 17/18 in order to focus on studying for my high school finals (ironically I didn't even do very well lol). I went straight into university after highschool so I never really considered picking it back up properly, occasionally I would dust off one of my guitars and have a little play but no sessions of substantial length.

I currently have a Cort acoustic (beautiful guitar, will probably keep this for decades if it lasts), but I also have a Yamaha EG112C which I've started using to relearn, though I personally don't like the style and tone it produces- I'm not sure if it's the amp or the guitar/strings, but it sounds really buzzy? In my research, I've really liked the sound that humbucker pickups produce, so I've been leaning quite heavily towards something like an Epiphone Dot, etc. I don't really like the Stratocaster style of the Yamaha, but aesthetically I like archtop and telecaster guitars. I've been enjoying playing rock, stuff like The Strokes, Talking Heads, Foo Fighters, etc. so a guitar that would produce a nice clean tone as well as the archetypical rock sound is really important.

I don't mind too much about buying secondhand/from a store since I have no plans on playing professionally; this is just a hobby I want to come back to. Since I have no professional plans currently, my budget is $250-700AUD (which is really only the low end range of the second hand stuff I've seen). Any suggestions are appreciated!
