New to Guilty Gear and new(ish) to fighting games in general. What's the best way to overcome the urge to button mash?

Post Body

As the title says, I'm very new to fighting games, and Strive is my first Guilty Gear game.

I've been going through a bunch of the tutorials, and practicing combos, and learning the mechanics, but whenever I'm in an actual match I get overwhelmed and I always catch myself resorting to button mashing. I try to be mindful of it, and when I catch myself I try to calm down, focus, and force myself to stop. But I can't seem to fully overcome it.

It's like whenever I start getting my butt kicked I always revert to it. Do I just need to keep at it, be mindful of when it happens, and stop myself? Do you guys have any tips for getting over it?
