A friend and I are trying to play the game on two PCs. Ideally we would connect via LAN, but there doesn't seem to be an option for that, so we're trying to do it the normal way. However, creating a lobby seems to be a nigh-impossibility.
Usually, creating a lobby fails, and we are instructed to "check the connection" (which is working fine, and shouldn't really be needed anyway, cause LAN). If we then try again, the game is stuck forever at "creating lobby", and the game needs to be forcefully shut down and restarted. Usually, after a dozen or so restarts, it will eventually work, but we had instances where creating a lobby was not possible for hours.
Are there any workarounds or other tricks one can do to alleviate this issue, or better yet, just connect via LAN?
EDIT: In case others are having the same issue, here is the reply I got from support. I haven't tried it yet; I'll keep updating this post as things develop.
Thank you for contacting Obsidian Support. Apologies on this multiplayer issue, our team is currently looking this. There is a current issue where players are playing on the same internet connection will have some issues, our team is investigating this. We would like to have you try the following steps:
While the game is installed, Right Click > Properties > Updates > Uncheck 'Steam Cloud'
Uninstall the game.
Steam > Settings > Cloud > Uncheck 'Steam Cloud'
Open File Explorer > Navigate to C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028316/windows-view-hidden-files-and-folders-in-windows-10)
Delete the entire folder titled 'Maine' (if a cache file can't be deleted, that's okay.)
Re-install and start the game.
EDIT: Seems to work now, we've not had any issues with setting up the lobby recently.
EDIT: Seems I spoke too soon. Now there are issues again.
EDIT: Overall, there have been marked improvements though, instead of usually failing, it now only fails sporadically, so I can still recommend the steps above to everybody having issues.
