Can't start?

Hey guys, I'm a first time player having an issue with the game. I can start the executable from steam. I get 3 choices (normal x64 and dx9). All seem to work. Regardless of which I choose, when I get to the main menu I can't start a game because the start button is greyed out. No explanation why. I just want to play a single player campaign for now.
Any ideas how to fix?
