How do you manage more than 6 characters?

In the main menu, I can only select from 6 characters. When I add one more, it does not show up in the list. How do you manage this?

I'm serious sometimes this game don't recognise it the first time,

Uhm, what. I've been playing GD for over 4 years now and have neither never heard of others having this issue or encountered it myself.
