my partner and I have had our 4 year old retired racer for just over 2 months. when we are home but she isnt getting affection or being played with, she will lick herself constantly. no particular area - paws, thigh crease, chest, back, etc. when we tell her "no" or make her stop, she just looks at us and starts panting.
she got a clean bill of health from the vet a few days ago so we were worried she might just be dry, but she doesn't scratch herself often. her water bowl always has clean water and we give her salmon oil supplements for her coat, but we also live in a dryer climate at high elevation (5600 ft).
is this just her getting acclimated still? I was wondering if anyone had experienced this and if there are mental exercises or something that people have had success with. thanks!
