Post Body

Hi all, just today at about 5.30pm my greyhound was attacked at the caulfield racecourse. A German shepherd was in the off leash park and I brought my greyhound in there. It was just the two dogs, me and the couple who brought the GSD I let him go off leash as everyone in the park should have had their dog under control. My greyhounds name is j. So j stood there like a lemon for abit while the other dog sniffed j rather aggressively. He stopped and left to play with his ball. His owner asked for Js name so I told him. He patted j for abit. His GSD came running back to his owner and the owner threw the ball once again. J had his ears perked and wanted to go chase after the GSD but he didn't. When the GSD came back to its owner, J went to sniff the SD in a calm manner taking his own time. The GSD still had the ball in his mouth and he suddenly started chewing down on his ball really hard. Out of nowhere (all of this happened so fast) the GSD lunged onto J and bit his leg. J tried to run away pulling the GSD along with him. Thankfully being a greyhound he was able to outrun the SD and managed to run far away from it. The GSD didn't chase. All the owner did was shout "no" at his dog and stood there doing nothing. J gets spooked pretty easily so I ran after him as soon as I saw this. I dropped my belongings and ran after J. I then brought J back to my belongings and checked him for injuries. J ended up with a nasty gash on his left thigh. Thankfully there was no puncture wound. I am grateful that the injury is not as serious as it could be but still very upset at the owner. He did not ask if my dog was okay. I think that is one of the few things you should do if your dog attacked another dog. I think that's the most responsible and moral action to take. He did not say sorry or offer any help. While walking back to my belongings, I saw him still playing with his dog after what had happened. He did not check his dogs for any injuries. And there would've been no need to because J did not even retaliate!! He velped and ran!! I while I was assessing Js injuries, they left the dog park. This is the first time my dog has been injured by another dog and I did not know what to do. Js is the most gentle most loving dog I have ever met. He doesn't jump up on people when he meets other people or dogs. He has never been aggressive to anyone except his food in which we are working on. everyone at the dog park is okay with their dogs playing with J because he plays gentle. He runs after dogs at the park but never bites or lunges or growls. J has met a lot of mv friends and he has never once showed aggression. Please be aware of this SD if you're ever at the caulfield racecourse. The owner of the SD is a couple about 50-60years old. They drive a silver car and their GSD looks like a mix. The man is a little chubby and the lady is a small sized lady. He brought a ball and the stick to throw it. Please be aware. Please let me know if you know this person or have seen this dog and it’s owner.
