CapÃtulo 1: Roberto Grande
Esta es la historia de un hombre que se llamava Roberto Grande
Quarter 1
2nd and 10 - Tonyan 27yd Catch (13:28)
The DB looks absolutely lost here. He goes to flip his hips and follow Bob but the sheer size of Roberto Grande confuses him. He doesn't understand how a man that large can be so graceful, so majestic. The DB fearfully decides to look for anyone else to cover. When he doesn't find anyone he reluctantly follows Bob but it's already too late, Rodgers has the easy completion for 27.
Quarter 2
3rd and 14 - Tonyan 19yd TD Catch (02:34)
The confusion on this play is really just astounding. I'm not sure who blew their assignment but this was an easy completion after the DB blitzed and the LB recognized Big Bob was running open way too late.
1st and 8 - Tonyan 8yd TD Catch (00:50)
Again, this is just too easy, you cannot let Tonyan cross your face like that. Yeah, I get it, he's big, he's fast, he's strong, George Kittle wishes he was him, he is the perfect human specimen but I don't really remember where I was going with this. Side note: the protection was just excellent here.
Quarter 3
3rd and 3 - Tonyan 21yd TD Catch (5:24)
You want to see what desperation looks like? Watch the DB covering BB. Tonyan lives up to his nickname here, gets inside the DB and then it's over. I let the play run a bit at the end because I like to see him skip. Side note again: that fucking protection tho!
Quarter 4
3rd and 1 - 20yd Tonyan 20yd Catch (03:24)
I had to play this clip in slow motion because it actually happens so fast here you might miss it. If you look carefully you'll see that TONYAN IS WIDE FUCKING OPEN. Nobody covers him. I'm not sure if the LB's thought he was going to block or what be he's clearly running across the line and everyone just abandons him and takes Jones in the flat instead.
Chapter 2: The Defense
Didn't want to focus on one particular thing here so I gave you guys a little sampler platter of good and bad.
Quarter 2
2nd and 1 - Z. Smith -8yd Sack (00:18)
This is just all power on the bull rush by Z. Just watch him get his hands on the center, knock him back and get the sack.
Quarter 3
1st and 5 - Gurley 5yd TD Run (07:25)
If you don't like missed tackles, then you don't like Packer Football. This should be short of the goal line but instead it's a touchdown.
Quarter 4
2nd and 3 - Gurley 3yd TD Run (12:58)
I just fucking hate this play. If Matt Ryan wants to throw that block then blow him the fuck up and make sure he never wants to throw that block again.
1st and 10 - Ryan 4yd Pass (15:00)
Watch how seamlessly the back end of the defense picks up the crossing receiver and tight end. The transition and passing off of assignments here is seamless. It's beautiful. That's the reason this was only a 4 yard completion.
Random Thoughts:
We have absolutely no one who can set a goddamn edge.
I wouldn't take anything about Tonyan from this game. It's really more an indictment of the Falcons defense and how injured they are than a testament of what Tonyan can do.
"I guess I don't know my body as well as others." Yeah, Davante. Those "others" are called doctors.
That fucking protection tho!
Jaire flies to the ball but sometimes he bails on his zone assignments a little too early. If he jumps the wrong route it can cause a tough situation for the safety over the top.
Whenever the Falcons wanted to go deep there was just nothing there. Great coverage on the deep routes and a tough day for the already injured receivers.
Savage needs to fly around a little more.Â
