Josh Allen and Other Things that Made Buffalo Fans Sad
This should be an easy completion to literally the largest target on a football field. Allen hesitates and it's incomplete
Again, what should be another easy completion as #11 uses Benjamin as the largest pick in the world and is open for a quick gain. Allen panics and throws it away
It's clear the Bills want to get Allen into a rhythm and are setting him up for easy completions he just can't hit. Here he misses #85, not even giving him a chance to make a catch
Watch how quickly Allen escapes the pocket and runs himself into pressure
Allen puts out a good stiff arm to avoid the sack and buy himself time to make the worst throw in the world
Allen stares down Benjamin the entire way making this an easy read for Dix. In Allen's defense, Benjamin is so large it's hard not to be looking his way no matter where you're staring
Alexander has perfect coverage and then inexplicably bails on it. Rookie mistake
Allen in the Pocket / Rodgers in the Pocket
Compare
The Running Backs
Watch how quickly Williams identifies the edge rusher, bails on the play action and assists with the block not by setting his feet and waiting but by nailing the rusher. That combined with Kendricks' block gives Rodgers enough time for what should have been a completion
Look at the mismatch Monty creates. He has the LB follow him to the left side and both the CB and the LB carry him up field leaving Adams open for a short gain and an easy conversion. Instead, Rodgers holds it as the LB bails on Monty leaving him wide open for a huge gain
Jones' longest run of the day but that hole was so big Kelvin Benjamin could have waddled through it. Good block by Kendricks who I think has been a bit of a target recently in this sub
Runs with the patience of a saint and the vision of a hawk
Great balance. The blocking could have been a little better
Pack Sack Attack
Matthews with a savvy hesitation like he's going out to the flat in coverage and then comes in for the sack. It's still an awful job by the tackle
Fackrell literally stumbling ass backwards into a sack
Fackrell with a nice little fake but the OT gets injured on this play
Fackrell beats a backup OT for an easy sack
BONUS
Random Thoughts:
- This was not a good game to base defensive improvement on. Allen was all kinds of bad I don't think Shady was 100% and the Bills OLine made Fackrell look like a pro-bowler
- How does Kelvin Benjamin have a job? He runs lazy routes, he gives up on plays when Allen scrambles and, after the Alexander interception, he lightly jogged after him. He's just not worth the roster spot
- Hold off on the Fackrell Appreciation Threads. He's just not good
- I'm on the Running Back by Committee boat with just a a tad more carries for Jones. Monty brings a whole different dynamic to the table and Williams gets a lot of the gritty work that hurts his PCA
- Missed opportunities has been the name of the game for our offense. I think we'll get there and the healthier Rodgers gets the more dangerous we'll be
- I love watching Bahktiari block. I love it
- I love watching Adams put moves on defenders at the line. I love it
- As you may have guessed, I don't like Kelvin Benjamin
*Edit: Kelvin Benjamin sucks
