Chiefs fan here. Please don't hate me, I was actually born and raised in the KC area. I wanted to discuss something with fans who know Rodgers very well.
Does anybody else get the sense that Rodgers was the first "modern game" NFL QB? I know Brady played forever and retired not too long ago, but he came into the league in 2000 and was the classic statue, drop back passer. Manning and Brees were similar. Don't get me wrong we've seen guys with mobility before like Montana, Young and Big Ben, but Rodgers was different.
When Rodgers first got the chance to start he seemed so far ahead of his time as far as play style and skill set. The absolute cannon arm, off platform throws, running/mobility, etc. You don't see too many guys going high in the draft that play like Brady or Manning anymore. I think Burrow is the closest thing.
The way the position is played in the modern NFL all seems to have began with Rodgers. Every team is looking for the Quarterback who plays like Rodgers. That's what Mahomes and Caleb Williams were all about. When I watch Caleb Williams it's like he's trying to clone Rodgers. I'm not calling him Rodgers, but it looks like he's trying to do his best Rodgers impersonation.
Not by a long shot.
