All these photos offer a rare and never before published anywhere look into the infamous Zug Island (allegedly) home of the "Windsor Hum". Coming in at just under 1 square mile in size, many people consider it to still be one of the most polluted areas in Metro-Detroit. Purchased in 1901 by the Detroit Iron works, it was responsible for producing millions of tons of American, cold, hard steel until 2020 when the last blast furnace was idled, probably forever unfortunately. Today the island is home to the EES Coke LLC (a DTE Energy company) battery #5 which produces "Coke" a refined version of coal for customers such as Cleveland cliffs, US Steel and DTE Energy. The island also has it's own railroad called "Delray Connecting Railroad" which maintains and operates along approximately 15 miles of track in the area. Thanks
