Volume button melting

'14 grand cherokee. So, the volume button rubber seems to be melty and sticky. I avoid using it quite a bit but whatever the previous owner did. The rubber around the volume dial is practically the consistency of chewed gum. It's gross. Does anybody know of any fixed? Or just purchase a new dial and pull the old one off?
