I'll be done with my masters classes this summer. I have a good idea of what I want to do (agroforestry and medicinal forest plant conservation) but I'm doubtful that the career path pays that well. Also, I'm not a traditional student (31 already! I worked between my undergrad and masters) and my undergrad wasn't spectacular (2.75 GPA) but my masters has been phenomenal so far (3.85 GPA, consistent good grades). I REALLY like my studies and I'm passionate about my field, but I'm skeptical about whether or not a PhD is worth it? I think if I got in, I could pull it off - I like research, I like the classwork - but will the ultimate payoff be worth it? Should I just stop at masters and see what opportunities I can get?
For reference: My undergrad was Biology - Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Bio track, and my master's is Agriculture and Life Sciences - Plant and Environmental Science track. My tentative PhD would be Forestry in Agroforestry and Non-Timber Forest Products, I suppose.
