Giving colloquium/seminar talks
Post Body

I am a PhD student in astronomy and just completed my first year. I recently published a paper and I have been told that in graduate school one school always seek out opportunities to give colloquium and weekly seminar talks at other institutions to get their name out. As I have done this before, how does one go about "getting invited" to give talks?

Edit: From what I have heard, it is fairly common in astronomy for graduate students to "get invited" to give talks at other institutions. One professor told me that she gave about 30 talks as a graduate student which helped her with networking and getting her name out there.
