Can recent Pixels still get OTA updates when rooted, like the Nexus series?
Post Body

The Nexus 4/5/5X had no problem at all getting OTA updates the regular way. But of course now we have the dual partition layout and generally much more locked-down phones, so this may well have changed.

Google is giving me conflicting info, there's just so much noise ...

For reference, my rooting process for the past couple of years has been:

  • unlock bootloader
  • patch factory boot image via Magisk Manager
  • boot custom recovery via fastboot
  • flash patched boot image

My 5X is dying and the Pixels are tempting, but losing OTA updates would be a showstopper (and I'd rather not put LineageOS or something on it straight away, either).
