Pixel 4XL Light Mode/Dark Mode Switching

I understand it doesn't switch at sunset/sunrise if the display is on. However, if display is off and I turn phone on after it should have switched (even by hours), it still comes on in the "old" mode. I have to turn it ON/OFF/ON to switch to the correct mode. Does anyone else have this? Does anyone know the fix?
