You are alone. The cold night continues to go on and you finally feel yourself slipping away. For days you have wandered the forest in hopes of something finding you, but in the end it simply wasn’t meant to be. You are weak and ill; you look at your surroundings with the last of your strength, but you know that the war had taken a toll on the land. There were no monsters to save you and no civilization left to find.
You fall against a tree and go limp as you slide to the ground. The cold ground is uncomfortable, but you know it wont matter. As you slowly drift away you hear a noise that seems so alive yet also so cold. Your vision is blurry and for a second you think that an angel is coming to take you away, but you know that angels aren’t clothed in black, and have skin as pale as snow. You can barely make out the features of this figure but her voice… no… her sobs are clearly feminine. These sobs cause a deep sadness to well up inside of you. She grabs your hand and you feel a sensation of being both warm and cold. For a moment you wish that could be with her longer but your eyes slowly close and darkness overtakes your vision.
You open your eyes and find nothing but darkness, you are nothing, and you feel nothing. A rising fear overwhelms you as you think that this world is the afterlife. But just as you started to panic you hear a sad voice echo around you. “Human, come back” it whispers. You open your eyes and find yourself in an unfamiliar surrounding. You know that time has passed but you’re not sure how much time. You then feel a sudden pain in your chest which causes you to cry out. The woman that you saw before puts your hand in yours and you feel relief. You look to her eyes and notice a tear fall. “I’m sorry” she whispers.
